What do effective student-student relationship and teacher-student relationships look like?
Relationships are a very important factor throughout a person’s education. Student to student relationships highly affect the way students engage in school activities and are directly linked to student success in school. When students feel comfortable socially they are likely to be less self conscious about their academic performance. This self-consciousness can cause anxiety, stress, and avoidance which, creates a difficult working environment. Furthermore if student’s relationships are positive it will create a positive learning experience with minimal conflict. Students communicate and encourage each other throughout a positive relationship. Ways to build student relationships such as group work and initiative tasks can be useful. As a important as relationships are amongst students, teacher student relationships are also very important.
Positive student-teacher relationships have lasting impacts on students. These positive relationships create a better learning environment for students. They key to establishing any good relationship is communication. Other ways a teacher can build a good relationship is by showing academic and emotional support toward students. Place based activities as well initiative tasks also help students build relationships amongst each other. Teachers can try to connect with students on many different levels but relationships are a two way street it takes work from both sides.
If students are unwilling to share any sort of personal opinion with teachers or connect with teachers the teacher-student relationship becomes weakened. A relationship consists of two people therefore students need to try and connect with teachers on some level as well. When students like and respect the teacher it is much easier for the student to form a relationship with the teacher. These positive student teacher relationships are necessary for student success.
