Lighting

The topic of lighting comes up quite often within texts about creating successful learning environments. Although we were aware of the negative stigma fluorescent lighting has we were not exactly sure what effects this form of lighting was having on students within classrooms today.Crowther and Wellhousen (2004) explain Studies have confirmed that the fluorescent lighting has increased hyperactivity and in turn slowed down student achievement.

Unfortunately classrooms do not always have access to large amounts of natural lighting.

Teachers often do not have the power to alter the types of lighting or amount of windows that are installed in schools therefore avoiding the cost effective fluorescent culprit may bedaunting. Reid (2007) also agrees with the negative effects that lighting may have on students and that teachers should try to find alternative light sources (pg.28).ent. It seems as though natural light is the best solution to the fluorescent lighting effects.
